Vi som driver denna sidan heter Sabine och Michael. Vi bor i ett litet samhälle i Skåne som heter Bjuv, det ligger ungefär en kvarts bilresa från Helsingborg.
Vi fick vårat kennelnamn godkänt i slutet av 2008. Kennelnamnet har ingen särskild betydelse utan är bara ett smeknamn på vårt landskap. I vår vänkrets benäms ibland Skåne som "The Dirty South". Vi tyckte det passade med våran ras både då det är Amerikanskt klingande (Australian Shepherd är ju trots allt en Amerikansk ras) och dessutom tycker vi att aussies, som rasen också kallas, klär i en lite skitigare skrud! Nåja,iallafall har de en stor benägenhet att bli just det, skitiga.

Redan med första aussien Yenna (Mr Binks Cheyenne Princess efter Mistrettas painted Lizard & Fairoaks Sami Jo) född februari 1997, väcktes tankar och planer på avel men så blev det aldrig. Nu ca 16 år senare finns det lite mer kött på benen om ras och hund överhuvudtaget och eventuell avel känns i dagsläget mer passande. Däremot har Yenna verkligen visat hur en äkta Australian Shepherd för oss ska vara och på så sätt hjälpt oss hitta rätt i rasen. Vår första kull föddes jan 2013 där modern (Fairoaks Nadera "Dera") är kusin med vår speciella Yenna. Det var en stor personlig ära för oss att få använda en tik för vår första kull direkt från Fairoaks (Sandy Cornwell) avel, Dera är efter Fairoaks Aladar & Fairoaks Andalaya.

Vi båda är uppvuxna med hundar och föräldrar aktiva i hundsport och avel. Hundar och särskilt brukshundar har alltid varit en naturlig del av våra liv. Vi båda tränar hund aktivt och försöker ge oss ut på tävling. De hundsporter vi ägnar oss är i huvudsak Bruks, Lydnad, IPO och Vallning. Agility och Frisbee är en fin omväxling. Vi gillar även draget och har "drag-glada" hundar så mycket av fysträningen blir i form av kickbikeing! Michael är träningsfigurant inom IPO-skyddet, figgar för tillfället i Höganäs BK's IPO-grupp (där han även är aktiv med aussien Hazard) Michael utbildar sig nu till att bli tävlingsfigurant i sporten, därtill är han utbildad IPO Provledare​(BH, IPO, BSL, FH, IPO-FH).

Rasen Australian Shepherd betyder mycket för oss, vi har en passion till rasen och vill hjälpa till att bevara men ändå föra rasen framåt. Vi kommer alltid vara väldigt noga med vilka val vi gör vid avel, även om vi inte planerar särskilt stor avel påverkas ändå rasen av våra val. Vi är egentligen bara ett helt vanligt par som älskar att syssla med hund, anser vi att vi har möjlighet att göra en riktigt bra och intressant kombination så kommer vi göra den. Men vi kommer aldrig någonsin ta kullar bara för att vi råkar ha ett kennelnamn.

Vi tycker det är av högsta vikt och prioritet att hundarna är helt friska, mentalt som fysiskt. Intelligens hos hundarna är viktigt, utan den har man inte mycket. De ska vara fyllda med arbetslust, ha god arbetsmoral, driv, lekfullhet, glädje och följsamhet. Samtidigt ska de ha förmågan att hålla huvudet kallt och en välmonterad på och av-knapp är viktig. De ska gärna ha sin naturliga vallinstinkt i behåll. Aussien kallas ofta för en "allroundhund", detta betyder egentligen att de är en "Allround vallhund" och hjälpreda med sysslor på "ranchen" men ofta har de tolkats som att de funkar i de flesta sporter, lydnad, utställning, rallylydnad, agility etc. Det gör de ju bevisligen men kan vara bra att veta vad det i rasens ursprung egentligen menats. Aussies fungerar bra som vallhund om man förstår sättet den vallar på och slipper bli jämförd med andra rasers sätt att jobba.
För att ta reda på så mycket som möjligt om våra hundars hälsotillstånd kommer vi göra diverse DNA test utöver sedvanliga höft, armbågsröntgning och ögonlysning. MH är ett bra och viktigt redskap för att få reda på mer om hundarna och framförallt för att utvärdera kullar. Dock kommer vi titta på väldigt mycket mer än MH,MT och tävlings resultat när vi avgör om en hund ska gå i avel.
Vi ser gärna att de som är intresserade av att i framtiden äga en Dirty South's valp är lika intresserad av hälsa, mental som fysisk och går MH, ev MT och också röntgar och lyser sina hundar.

En Australian Shepherd ska vara "moderate", lagom och utan några överdrifter. Något som ibland glöms bort och inte minst när det kommer till det exteriöra i rasen. Ordet "moderate" näms ofta, så ofta att det borde nå fram, i rasklubben ASCA's standard som ju AKC och vår svenska standard är utformad efter.
Många saker är tycker vi, ganska "linjebetonat" i rasen. Det är viktigt att uppfödare i fråga är ärlig med vad h*n har i sina hundar och vad tanken bakom aveln är. Och om det passar till det som valpköparen tänkt göra med sin hund.
Australian Shepherd är en brukshund, en vall-vakthund. Detta är något man bör vara införstådd med. Det förekommer reservation i rasen, men det är skillnad på att vara reserverad, rädd och/eller agressiv. Vi vill vi inte se någon överdriven vakt eller negativ stress i våra hundar. En av anledningarna till att vi älskar denna ras är att den faktiskt kan koppla av när arbete inte erbjuds.

Våra hundar här hemma brukar ofta beskrivas som vackra och uttrycksfulla av de som möter dom. Vi menar att det är en självklarhet för oss. En rastypisk Aussie för oss är utrycksfull och en hund man lägger märke till.Våra hundar är rastypiska med starka färger, sportiga, lätta kroppar men fortfarande nog med benstomme och huvuden för att inte misstas för en annan ras. Passande lagom med päls för rasen. Deras alerta ansiktsuttryck är också något vi gillar, man ser att de är smarta och de har uppsynen "Alltid redo!"
Det är för oss viktigt att bevara Aussiens ursprungliga rasegenskaper och rastypiskhet!

”A voice cries out in the wilderness...MODERATION! Anyone involved in breeding or judging our breed should treat that word with a reverence bordering on religous fervor. I realize that the American dream states ”If a little is good, MORE IS BETTER,” but we must fight this impulse. Moderation is what our breed is all about. The word is used or implied in our breed standard more than a dozen times. Moderation is necessary for versatility, and versatility is the essence of our breed.”​

The names behind Dirty South's Aussies are Sabine Malmgren and Michael Olsson.
We live in a small community in southern Sweden called Bjuv. It is about a quarter drive from the town Helsingborg. We got our kennel name approved in late 2008. The kennel name has no specific meaning. It is just a nickname for our part of Sweden, in our circle of friends south of Sweden is sometimes called
" The Dirty South ". We thought it fit with our breed, both because it is American-sounding ( Australian Shepherd is after all an American breed however developed in the northwestern parts ) and in addition , we think that Aussies dressed in a little dirt fits them! Oh well, atleast they have a great tendency to become just that...dirty.
Already with the first Aussie "Yenna" ( Mr Binks Cheyenne Princess after Mistrettas Painted Lizard & Fairoaks Sami Jo) born in February 1997, the dreams of breeding Aussies started forming. Altough she was never bred. Now about 16 years later , there is a little more "meat on the bones" about the knowledge of the breed and dogs in general and possible breeding feels more suitable. However, Yenna really shown how a TRUE Australian Shepherd, for us, is at it's best! Our first litter was born in January 2013. The mother of that litter (Fairoaks Nadera " Dera " after Fairoaks Aladar & Fairoaks Andalaya) is a cousin of our special Yenna!
It was a great personal honor for us to use a female for our first litter from Fairoaks (Sandy Cornwell ) breeding and we are forever grateful that we had the oppurtunity to "go back in time" with that litter.
We both grew up with dogs and parents that where active in dog sports and also breeding. Dogs and especially working dogs has always been a natural part of our lives . We both train our dogs activly and compete when we get the chance . The dog sports we are engaged in primarily is ; obedience, the swedish working venues such as tracking and searching, IPO and herding . Agility and Frisbee is fun also! We also like the mushing and have " pull - happy " dogs so much of the physical training for the dogs will be in the form of kickbikeing! Michael is training helper/decoy/figurant in IPO schutzhund , he is currently located at Höganäs workingdogclub's IPO group (where he is also active in the sport with one of our Aussies BH Keep Smiling's Lone Star "Hazard" ) He is also a IPO Test conductor (BH , IPO , BSL , FH , IPO -FH ).
The breed Australian Shepherd means a lot to us , we have a passion for the breed and want to help preserve but still help develop the breed. We will always be very careful about the choices we make in breeding , although we do not plan especially large amount of litters, the breed will be affected anyway because of ours and all breeders choices. We are really just an ordinary couple who is very active in dogtraining/dogsports but if we believe that we have the opportunity to do a really, really good and interesting combination then we will do it. But we will never breed puppies just because we happen to have a kennel name .
We think it is of the highest importance and priority that the dogs are perfectly healthy , mentally and physically. Intelligence in dogs is important. They should be filled with will to work , have good work ethic , drive , playfulness , joy and also they should have will to please-whithout loosing the ability to "think for itself". At the same time , they must know how to keep a cool head and a good on and off button is important. We would love them to have their natural herding instinct intact. The Aussie is often called a " allround dog " , this actually means that they are an " All-round herding " and helper with chores on the "Ranch " but often they have been interpreted as they work in most sports, obedience , show, rally obedience, agility , etc. . they apparently do but it may be good to know what it is in the breed's origin really meant. Aussies is nice herding dogs if you understand theyre workstyle and not have to be compared to other breeds the way they work.
In order to find out as much as possible about our dogs' health status , we will make various DNA testing beyond the usual hip, elbow and eye check . MH, Mental health description, is a good and important tool in our country to learn more about the dogs and mainly to evaluate the litters. However, we will look at a lot more than the MH results when determining whether a dog should be bred or not. It is still just one day in the dogs life. We hope that those who are interested to be a future Dirty South's puppy owner is just as interested in the health, mental and physical as we are and do if possible MH and the other tests that are needed for us to evaluate our breeding.
An Australian Shepherd is supposed to be "moderate " , and without any exaggeration. Something that is sometimes forgotten , and not least when it comes to the exterior of the breed. The word "moderate " is mentioned often in the breed club ASCA 's standard.
We feel that many things are quite " line highlighted " in the breed. It is important that the breeder in question is honest with what she or he have in their dogs and what the idea behind the breeding is . And if it fits in with what the puppy buyer intended to do with their dog.
The Australian Shepherd is a working dog , a herding but also they have guarding instinct. This is something you should be aware of when thinking of this breed. There is some reservation in the breed, but there is a difference between being reserved , fearful and / or aggressive . We wish not to see any excessive guard or negative stress or fear in our dogs. One of the reasons that we love this breed is that they actually can relax when work is not offered.Our dogs at home is often described as beautiful and expressive. We believe that they should be! A Aussie for us is expressive and a dog that attracts attention to it.Our dogs we feel are typy with strong colors, sporty , lightweight bodies but still enough bone structure and heads to not be mistaken for another breed. Suitable right amount of fur for the breed. Their alert facial expression is also something we like, you can just look at them and know that they are smart and they have that look " Always ready ! "
It is of great importance for us to preserve the Australian Shepherd original breed characteristics.
